Balanced Attack Leads Men’s Hoops to 75-65 Victory at D’Youville

Buffalo, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team received several strong performances headlined by a career-high 30 points fromSam Annorh (Queens, NY) as they overcame a slow start to defeat host D'Youville College, 75-65, Sunday evening.

The Roos (3-2) led 48-44 with 11:49 remaining in the contest but used a key 12-4 run over the next four minutes to open up its largest lead of the game at 60-48 with 7:30 remaining. Kam Peterkin (Harlem, NY) drained two shots from beyond the arc on the run. D'Youville (1-4) would get no closer than eight points the remainder of the game.
 
Annorh led all scorers as he established a new career-high with 30 points. His previous best came January 29, 2014 when he scored 29 points vs. Johnson State. The sophomore point guard also added six rebounds and three assists hitting on nine of his 18 field goal attempts, while making 17 trips to the free throw line. Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) made his presence felt with 11 points and 16 rebounds, 11 of which came on the offensive glass.

   
Kam Peterkin had 13 points off the bench going 4-for-5 from behind the arc.

Peterkin gave SUNY Canton a big lift off the bench with 13 points shooting 80 percent from three-point range (4-for-5).Tyler Ellison (New York, NY) chipped in 11 points and six rebounds, while Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) posted a game-best six assists to go with six points and eight boards.
 
Jon Gemerek led four players in double figures for the Spartans with 19 points. Julian Reed (16), Marcus Clarke (13) and Matt Insley (11) joined Gemerek to lead D'Youville in scoring.
 
SUNY Canton closed the final 7:54 of the first half on a 19-4 run to take a 31-26 lead into intermission. The strong finish to the opening 20 minutes was capped off by a three-pointer at the buzzer from Bratton. D'Youville scored the first nine points of the contest but the Roos slowly trimmed away at the deficit before the key stretch over the final eight minutes of the half.
 
The Roos held advantages in rebounds (51-37), points in the paint (24-16), points off turnovers (19-12), second chance points (18-12) and bench points (24-3). The men's basketball team will host their home opener of the 2014-15 season on Friday when Utica College visits the Roos House at 5:30 p.m.
