Claremont, Calif. - Justin Leathers had a three-pointer and a put-back to start a late 10-0 run to turn a 54-54 tie into a 64-54 lead and carry the Lewis & Clark Men's Basketball team to a 74-68 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday evening at the David Wells Classic.

Senior guard Michael Cohen had 18 points to lead the Sagehens, who led by as many as 17 in the first half but fall to 2-2 with the loss. Lewis & Clark, which was led by 17 points from Serg Ovchinnikov, improves to 4-2 with the win.

The score was tied 54-54 after a foul shot from freshman forward Spencer Schwartz, but Leathers spotted up in the left corner for a three-pointer with 4:31 left to give his team the lead for good. On the next possession, Leathers converted on a put back on a third chance opportunity, and Ovchinnikov followed with a tough runner in the paint to stretch the lead to seven.

After an exchange of stops, Cannen Roberson buried a three-pointer from the right wing just before the shot clock expired to stretch the lead up to 64-54 with 1:26 to go.

The Sagehens fought back a bit, as freshman guard Hunter Lowry (pictured) hit a pair of three-pointers and Cohen added one. A Cohen bank shot then cut the lead to 70-65, but Lewis & Clark was able to make enough of its foul shots down the stretch to keep the Sagehens at bay.

Pomona-Pitzer led 32-15 after a Cohen three-pointer with 6:41 left in the first half, but foul trouble to junior forward Gibson Farone-Collins and senior guard Adrian Brandon left the Sagehens without many offensive weapons for the close of the opening stanza. The Pioneers were thus able to hold Pomona-Pitzer to 0-7 from the floor over the last five minutes of the half to close to within 37-31, and then kept up the defensive momentum by holding the Sagehens to 0-7 over the first five minutes of the second half to tie the score 38-38.

Farone-Collins finished with 14 points, while Lowry and Brandon each had 11. Brandon fouled out with just under 10 minutes remaining after playing only 19 minutes. Roberson had 14 points for the Pioneers, while Jason Luhnow had a solid overall line of 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Thursday when it takes on North Central at 7:30 p.m. in the second half of a doubleheader with the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team, which plays La Sierra at 5:30 p.m.
