BEAVER FALLS, PA. -- Sophomore Kyle Deckerd (Louisville/Canton South) scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Hiram College men's basketball team past Geneva (Pa.) by a 75-62 score on Tuesday.

The Terriers remain perfect on the season at 4-0, while the Golden Hurricanes drop to 1-4.

The 4-0 start is the best for Hiram since the 1972-73 season, when the Terriers began the season 8-0.

Deckerd finished the game 5-of-9 from the field. He was also 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Freshman Kelvin Jones (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) added a career-high 14 points and sophomore Jeremiah Thomas (Cleveland/John Hay) added 13 points off the bench.

Geneva came out and scored 10 of the games first 12 points, to build an early 10-2 lead.

A layup by Jones capped a 9-0 run and gave the Terriers their first lead of the game at 21-20, with 8:32 left in the first half.

Hiram used another 9-0 first half run to expand its lead to 38-28. The Terriers took a 42-33 lead into the break.

A free throw from Thomas gave the Terriers a 53-38 lead with 14:36 remaining.

But the Golden Hurricanes responded with a 10-2 run to draw within seven at 55-48.

Hiram responded by scoring seven of the next nine points, capped of by a Deckerd 3-pointer, to push the lead back to 62-49. Geneva would get no closer than nine points the rest of the game.

The Terriers finished the game 29-of-61 (47.5 percent) from the field, while Geneva shot 23-of-48 (47.9 percent).

Hiram forced scored 24 points off of 24 Geneva turnovers in the game. The Terriers also outscored the Golden Hurricanes 16-4 in second chance points and 34-14 in bench points.

The Terriers will put their undefeated record on the line again on Saturday, with a road contest at Penn State-Altoona on Saturday at 3 p.m.
