ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—Senior guard Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy-NJ) returned to the lineup Saturday afternoon for The University of Scranton men's basketball team's Landmark Conference opener against Elizabethtown College.

And no one was more happier to see him on Thompson Court today than his father, veteran Royal head coach Carl Danzig, who watched him and senior guard Justin Klingman (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) combine for 29 points in leading Scranton to a 65-54 victory.

The Royals also received a big lift from junior forward Marcus Thomas (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg), who made his first start of the season and the second of his career and finished with nine points and 10 rebounds, and freshman point-guard Kevin Doolan (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge), who had nine points, three rebounds and did not have a turnover in 23 minutes of action.

Danzig's return had a soothing effect on the Royals, who appeared anything but comfortable in Wednesday's 49-44 loss at Misericordia, a game in which they shot less than 36 percent from the field and lost despite holding the Cougars to only two field goals in the second half.

Today was a different story.

The Royals, now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play, came out relaxed, knocked down their first eight shot attempts, and connected on 16 of 23 field goal attempts (69.6 percent) to build up a 41-26 lead by intermission.  Scranton's lead was never seriously threatened after that.

Danzig, who suffered an ankle sprain in last Sunday's 57-54 win over Alvernia and who was in street clothes Wednesday at Misericordia, hit 5 of 10 shots from the field and finished with 13 points, four assists, and two rebounds in 32 minutes of action.  

But it was Klingman who really lit up the Blue Jays, connecting on 6 of 7 shots from the field, including all four of his 3-point attempts, while finishing with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 36 minutes. For the season, he is now shooting 60 percent from the field (21 of 35), including 65 percent from the 3-point arc (13 of 20).

Elizabethtown, playing its first game ever as the newest member of the Landmark Conference, was led by senior guard Phil Wenger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) with 11 points and senior forward/center Lee Eckert (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) had 10. Today's win was the first by the Royals over the Blue Jays at Thompson Gymnasium since February 7, 1998.

The Royals will host Cabrini College, ranked 20th by D3hoops.com, this Tuesday, November 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Long Center.  Tickets are $5.00 for adults (18-60) and $3.00 for senior citizens (61 and older) and children (ages 8-17).  All children, seven and under accompanied by an adult, will be admitted free as well as all University of Scranton students, faculty and staff.
