MADISON, N.J. (November 20, 2014) – Led by a career-high 19 points from junior forward Ozan Yucetepe and game-high 27 from junior guard Mike Klinger, the Drew University men's basketball team defeated the Bryn Athyn College Lions by a score of 84-61 on Thursday night in Baldwin Gymnasium.

Junior center Kevin-Michael Miller notched his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He also contributed three blocks and two steals in the victory.

At the opening of the contest, Drew showcased their explosiveness. They thwarted multiple Bryn Athyn attempts at the basket, even as they attempted to adapt.  Drew trapped the Lions in the corners with double teams and took on fast breaks the errant passes that followed.

On one 3-1 fast break, junior guard Kevin Herring II led it and quickly dished a lead pass to junior forward Jason Huelbig. Huelbig, instead of taking it to the rim tapped it, in stride, softly to Yucetepe who finished the play.

Yucetepe praised his team's ball distribution. "We shared the ball we did what we're supposed to do on both the offensive and defensive ends," Yucetepe said. "Coach told me from the beginning we needed more post touches and we haven't had that in previous years. I feel like I'm more of a post-up guy who works from the inside."

When deep three's wouldn't fall, Klinger attacked the paint with force. He unleashed a series of three slick drives to the basket, culminating with a spinning and-one bucket. Klinger sped in, leapt and as a defender spun him in mid air, let a shot go with his back to the basket. The shot fell and Klinger tumbled to the ground with a fist pump for good measure.

"It's nice to see our big guys like Kevin and Ozan do what they were supposed to do and take advantage of their size, rebound the ball and finish around the basket," Coach Keckler said. "It's also nice to be able to put the ball in Mike Klinger's hands and have him put the game away for us. He was aggressive early, got to the line, got some and-one's, it was impressive, he did a good job."

The Rangers were in sync and operating effectively. They dominated the glass, doubling the Lion's rebound total 28-14. Drew entered the half outshooting Bryn Athyn 50-percent to 34-percent. They led 43-27.

The Lions came out of the break with much more control than the previous half. They made a run at Drew's lead, outscoring them 24-21 in the first 12 minutes. Drew began fouling and the Lions capitalized, making their free throws. Drew began turning it over as well but a timely Klinger three or Miller slam-dunk would reestablish intermittent comfort for the Rangers.

Klinger decided he had enough and that the Lions had gotten too close. He ran the point with a refreshed sense of purpose. The guard then promptly shook once and lost a defender with a crossover. He then rose and let one go as the hapless defender desperately shoved him down, Klinger fell as the shot swished in, Klinger had taken over the game.

Meanwhile Yucetepe was working on a newly minted career-high point total. His previous record of 10 points in a single game was shattered and when he was subbed out with seven minutes remaining, he was sitting atop a fresh 19 for the record.

Drew will host Vassar College in a non-conference tilt slated for a 4:00 p.m. start on Saturday, November 22nd in Baldwin Gymnasium.
