Five Albright Players Reach Double Figures in Victory over Penn State-Berks

READING, Pa. –  Evan Ward recorded a double-double in the first half and finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds, to lead Albright College to a  90-57 victory over Penn State-Berks in a non-conference men's basketball contest Wednesday night inside the Bollman Center.

Albright (2-1) put five players in double figures and owned the boards with a 54-34 edge including outrebounding the Nittany Lions 22-13 on the offensive glass and outscoring the visitors 29-14 in second chance points.

The game was tied at 10-10 four minutes in, but Albright went on a 23-8 run to break the game open and take a 33-18 lead with 6:26 to play in the half.  The Nittany Lions closed the gap to seven at 37-30 with under three minutes left in the first. Josh Marquez hit a three to stretch the lead back to double digits and spark a 7-0 run to end the half with Albright to holding a 44-30 edge at the break.

Marquez, who was the high scorer with 14 points, opened the second half with another from downtown to give Albright a 47-30 lead and Penn State-Berks was not able to get any closer. The sophomore has been in double figures in each of the Lions games this season.

Omari Ringgold added 13 and the Albright bench contributed with 35 points led by Gilberto Benz with 12 and Jalen Harris who added 10.

Dameon Nixon was the high point man for the Nittany Lions (0-2) with 15, while Christian Burggraf added 14 and Nygel Belizaire had 10 points, nine rebounds and five blocks for Penn State-Berks.

Albright shot 43.5% from the field going 30-69, while holding the Nittany Lions to 34.3% on 23-67 shooting.

Albright dished out 13 assists and committed only six turnovers as the two teams combined for only 15 turnovers.

The Lions continue its three-game homestand on Saturday (Nov. 22) when Penn State-Harrisburg comes to the Bollman Center for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
