North Dartmouth, Mass. - Bryan Ortiz scored 27 points to lead the Salem State University Vikings to an 102-85 win over the Trinity College Bantams in the final game of the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Hampton Inn Men's Basketball Classic this evening. Trinity finishes 1-1 in the season-opening event, after downing the host Corsairs, 86-63, last evening, while Salem State is 2-0.

Trinity sophomore forward Ed Ogundeko (Brooklyn, N.Y.) opened the game with a bucket in the paint, but Salem State broke open the game with a 24-4 run to take a commanding 30-12 lead midway through the first. Nicholas Grassa scored eight points during the spurt as the Vikings built 56-29 lead before halftime. The Vikings shot 59 percent (20-for-34) from the field in the first half, including 6-for-10 behind the arc.

In the second half, Trinity cut the deficit to 18 at 73-55 with 11:02 remaining, after two free throws by senior tri-captain Hart Gliedman (New York, N.Y.) and another by senior tri-captain center George Papadeas (Athens, Greece), but a three-pointer by Hamed Akanni pushed the lead back to 21 and the Bantams never threatened again.

Junior forward Shay Ajayi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Trinity with 19 points and nine boards, while junior guard Jaquann Starks (Hartford, Conn.) scored 16 points, and Ogundeko finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.
