Hood College sank a trio of three-pointers in a 49-second span across both halves, holding off Albright in the Commonwealth Conference first round by a score of 85-79.

Senior Pedro Perez totaled 31 points on 11-of-20 shooting. Classmate Kyle Jordan added a double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks. Freshman Josh Marquez shot the ball well for a second straight game, making 5-of-8 attempts for 11 points.

The Blazers led 40-36 at halftime following a Davon Hill triple to beat the buzzer. Cameron Cook was on fire to open the second half, draining three-pointers on the first two possessions to quickly extend Hood's lead to 46-36.

Sam Marrella's three-pointer had given Albright an 8-4 lead after less than three minutes played. Hood quickly responded however, getting the crowd into it with a 13-0 run.

Matt Galloway's three-pointer was followed by a three-point play from Justin Bowens to put Hood ahead. Bowens made another layup for a 14-8 lead, and Cameron Cook pushed it to 17-8 behind the arc.

The Lions called timeout and worked their way back into the game. Perez scored consecutive baskets to cut it to 21-15, and Marquez later cut the deficit to two midway through the first half.

Perez hit a three to make it 33-30 Hood, and then a jumper with two minutes left in the period that kept the gap at three, 37-34.

Down by 10 in the second half, the Lions got a stop and Evan Ward quickly released Marrella, who fed Perez on the fast break to cut it to 51-43.

After Hood airballed a three-pointer, Albright got a second chance rebound and Perez swished a baseline jumper to cut the Blazers' advantage to 61-56. The hosts led 69-60 after a Reggie Daniels jumper with under five minutes remaining.

Marquez hit a three-pointer with 2:42 remaining to cut Albright's deficit to 71-67. Ward hustled after a missed shot and was fouled, cutting the gap to 71-68 at the free throw line. Chris Cook drove for a huge Blazer basket however.

Albright falls to 13-13 and sees its season potentially end, unless the Lions are selected to the ECAC South tournament a week from today. Hood (who had six players in double-figures) will travel to fellow Maryland school Stevenson on Wednesday for the semifinals.
