CUNYAC Men's Basketball Quarterfinals: Baruch Falls to Lehman (68-60)

The sixth-seeded Lightning of Lehman College shot 51.1 percent from the field and won the battle of the boards with a 40-31 advantage to defeat the third-seeded Bearcats, 68-60, in a CUNYAC Tournament quarterfinal round playoff game on Saturday night in the ARC Arena.

The two teams entered the half tied at 26, but the Bearcats jumped out to a 39-33 lead early in the second half on a running jumper by Granville Gittens.

The Lightning rallied back with eight straight points to lead 41-39, and following several ties, went on another run of 9-3 to lead 50-44 with 6:24 left.

The Bearcats could not recover as Lehman built up their late-game momentum to lead by as much as 65-52 with 1:04 left.

Jerrome Jones of Lehman was named the CUNYAC Player of the Game. He recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, which played a pivotal factor in the Lightning controlling the boards.

Kelvin Gil scored 14 points and Jonathan Greenfield added his own double with 13 points and rebounds each to send the Lightning into the semifinals on Tuesday night to play second-seeded York at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium.

Raymond De La Cruz led the Bearcats with 18 points and Gittens finished with 16 points.

The Bearcats will now await news for a possible berth to the ECAC Metro Postseason Tournament.
