Keystone Falls to #6 Cabrini in Regular Season Finale

Radnor, PA – Cabrini College, currently ranked sixth in the nation, overcame a nine-point second half deficit to defeat visiting Keystone College, 86-73 in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday evening.  The Cavaliers, who have locked up the top seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs, improve to 22-1 overall and 16-1 in conference play while the Giants see their record drop to 11-14 on the season and 8-10 in league action.
 
Keystone will be the sixth seed in the conference playoffs and will travel to third seeded Neumann University on Saturday for a first round playoff game.
 
Cabrini scored the first eight points of Wednesday night's game before Keystone used a 12-2 run, taking a 12-10 lead with 14:22 remaining in the first half on a Duncan Lunsford (Marietta, GA/Sprayberry) layup.  The Cavaliers went back in front with a three-pointer on their next possession to start a 9-0 run that saw the hosts stake out a 19-12 advantage before the Giants battled back to within one point, 21-20, with 8:52 left on the clock when Dan Candemeres (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) connected from beyond the arc.
 
After the hosts stretched their lead to 28-22 with 4:24 remaining in the half, Keystone rattled off nine straight points to take a 31-28 lead with 1:09 left after Jesse Longmire (Harlem, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) scored on a lay-in.  Cabrini countered with another three-pointer to tie the game before Miles Dargan (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) gave the Giants a 34-31 halftime lead by connecting from downtown with 11 seconds remaining in the period.
 
Lunsford led Keystone with 11 points in the first half while Dargan netted nine points and Longmire added seven points.  Alex Smith (Floyd, NY/Holland Patent ) and Darien Wingate (Brooklyn, NY/Christiana) tied for the team lead with four rebounds apiece for the Giants, who shot 42.4 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play while going 6-15 from three-point range.
 
Fran Rafferty paced Cabrini's offense in the first half with 12 points while Brent Mahoney pulled down four boards in the period for the Cavaliers, who connected on 37.9 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening stanza while going 5-13 from beyond the arc.  
 
Keystone pushed their lead to 44-35 just under three minutes into the second half, but Cabrini countered with a 14-2 run to claim a 49-46 advantage with 13:30 remaining in regulation.  The Cavaliers were able to push their lead to 59-51 at the 10:48 mark before the Giants were able to draw to within four points, but Cabrini scored the game's next 12 points to hold a 71-55 advantage with 8:16 left on the clock. 

Wingate hit the backend of a pair of free throws with 5:42 to play to cut Keystone's deficit to 73-64 before the Cavaliers extended their lead back to as many as 15 points.  A layup by Rashaud Kelly with 2:16 remaining brought the Giants to within eight points at 81-73, but that was as close as the visitors would come as Cabrini pulled away with the 13-point victory.
 
Vinny Walls scored a game-high 27 points to lead four Cabrini players in double-figures for the game.  Rafferty netted 19 points, Jon Miller scored 18 points, and Brennan McCann chipped in 11 points for the Cavaliers, who were paced by Miller's 13 rebounds.  The hosts finished the night shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from three-point range, and 63.3 percent from the free throw line while holding a 51-40 advantage in rebounds for the game.
 
Lunsford finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for Keystone while Dargan netted 16 points in the loss.  Longmire and Candemeres tallied 13 points apiece while Wingate led the team with nine boards.  Lunsford and Longmire had four assists apiece with Longmire collecting a game-high four steals for the Giants, who connected on 37.3 percent of their field goal attempts on the evening while going 34.4 percent from beyond the arc and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.
 
Keystone will open the CSAC playoffs on Saturday afternoon at a time yet to be determined.  The Giants and Knights split the regular season series with Keystone winning at home, 89-79 in December, before Neumann won their home game, 81-67, on February 8th
