Providence, R.I.-Junior forward Chris Burton (New Rochelle, NY) led the way with 18 points, six steals and four assists as Rhode Island College fell, 85-73, to UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference men's basketball action played at the Tripp Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.

 

Junior guard Eric Alleyne (Watertown, MA) contributed 11 points, three boards and three assists for the visitors (16-8, 10-3 LEC). Senior guard Michael Palumbo (Providence, RI) pitched in with 10 points, while junior center Victor Smith (Providence, RI) registered nine points, six boards, three assists and a pair of steals.

 

UMass Dartmouth (15-9, 8-5 LEC) junior guard Jake Laga (Northampton, MA) led all scorers with 25 points and connected on 7-of-10 three-point attempts. Sophomore center Wale Abraham (Lynn, MA) scored 19 points and hauled in eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Abi Akanni (Fitchburg, MA) and freshman guard Ryan Walsh (North Dighton, MA) rounded out UMD's double-digit scorers with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

 

The Anchormen shot 41 percent (25-for-61) from the field, 48 percent (11-for-23) from downtown and 75 percent (12-for-16) from the free throw line.

 

 UMD shot 53 percent (30-for-57) from the field, 46 percent (10-for-22) from three-point land and 71 percent (15-for-21) from the charity stripe. The Corsairs dominated RIC on the glass, 40-29.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at home against Plymouth State on Saturday, Feb. 22 (3:00 p.m.).
