UMHB men rout U.T.-Tyler for sixth straight win

Tyler, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team scored the first five points of the game and never looked back as the Cru rolled to an 84-63 victory over U.T.-Tyler Saturday afternoon in Tyler. The win is the sixth straight for the UMHB men and moves them into sole possession of fourth place in the American Southwest Conference at 15-8 overall and 13-7 in the ASC on the year. The loss drops the Patriots to 13-10 overall and 12-8 in the ASC on the season.

Layton Zinsmeister opened the scoring with a three-pointer 27 seconds into the game and the Cru broke it open with a 10-2 run to start the contest. UMHB would hold a 42-29 edge at halftime. The Cru scored the first two points of the second half and never let the Patriots get closer than nine points the rest of the way in cruising to the victory.

Antonie Chaney led UMHB with 24 points and he went 11-11 from the free-throw line. Jerard Graham added 18 points and 10 rebounds and James Allen also reached double figures with 11 points. Eight different players scored for the Cru and Kevin Waller also pulled down 10 rebounds. UMHB shot 43 percent from the field and hit 21-22 from the free-throw line. The Cru also out rebounded the Patriots 49-28 in the victory.

Travis Dykman topped U.T.-Tyler with 16 points and Jordan Cannon and Nathan Harbour added 12 points apiece. The Patriots shot just 38 percent from the field and were just 8-22 from three-point range in the loss.

UMHB will now return home to close out the regular season with a pair of home games next week. The Cru will host Hardin-Simmons University for a 7:30 PM start on Thursday before closing out the weekend with a 3:00 PM tip-off against U.T.-Dallas. The Cru men have already clinched a berth in the ASC Tournament.
