Balanced Scoring Helps Centenary Top Rosemont

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Centenary College earned a season split with Rosemont as four starters scored in double figures and the Cyclones defeated the Ravens 74-68 in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action Thursday night at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
 
The Cyclones won their third-straight home game and improved to 5-15 (4-8 CSAC), while the Ravens fell to 9-12 and 7-7 in league play.
 
Senior Joshua Case (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) and Kyle Malavasi (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) both netted 13 points, while classmate Alex Bernhard (Mertztown, Pa./West-Mont Christian Academy) and junior Djovan Beausejour (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) each tallied 11.
 
Rosemont led by as many as eight during the early portion of the game before Centenary steadily chipped away, tying the contest at 20 following a jumper from freshman forward Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J./Ewing).
 
The teams fought for control of the lead during the next five minutes. The Cyclones gained a 31-29 edge on sophomore point guard Clayton Roker's (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and would not relinquish it. Beausejour canned a shot with under a minute to play, sending Centenary into halftime with a three-point lead.
 
The Cyclones took control during the first five minutes of the second half, using a 14-5 run, aided by a pair of triples from Bernhard, to gain a 12-point advantage.
 
The Ravens were able to get as close as three points on two occasions during the final five minutes, but Centenary iced the game at the charity stripe, scoring 10 of its final 12 points from the free throw line.
 
Five players pulled down five rebounds for Centenary, which shot 46 percent (25-54). Case blocked four shots and dished out three assists.
 
Rosemont received 17 points from both Dom Scafidi and Kyle Lafferty. The Ravens made nearly 40 percent (23-58) of their shots, but were out-rebounded 38-32.
 
Centenary faces Marywood for the first of two meetings this season Saturday at 4:00 pm.
