Lakeland starts quick, handles Dominican on road

Justin Ward (Sr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) put together another double-double and the Lakeland College men's basketball team defeated Dominican (Ill.) University 79-69 Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game.

Ward finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds and the Muskies never trailed, scoring the game's first six points and using a 11-0 spurt midway through the first half to take full control. Lakeland won for the second time in three days and improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the NACC, while Dominican remained winless at 0-7 overall, 0-3 in conference.

The Muskies held the Stars to 35.7% shooting (25 of 70), including just 30.6% in the first half (11 of 36). Lakeland shot a respectable 44.9%, hitting 31 of 69 from the field.

Ward was joined by James Oshkeshequoam (Sr.-Keshena, Wis.) and Joey Burris (Jr.-Kiel, Wis.) in double figures. Oshkeshequoam scored 14 points while coming off the bench and Burris added 12 points. Travis Kell (Fr.-Madison, Wis.) also added eight points and seven rebounds.

Josh Mayberry led Dominican with 14 points.

The Muskies will take final exams next week and will hit the court again next Saturday when they host Benedictine (Ill.) University at 2 p.m. at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
