RIVERDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team conceded a road Skyline Conference matchup with the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins on Saturday afternoon by the score of 78-68. The Panthers, who had won their two previous conference games, fall to 11-7 in all competitions (7-4 Skyline) while the Dolphins add wins to both their overall (6-13) and conference (4-8) records.

It was Mount Saint Vincent that jumped out early in this one, opening the game with a 9-2 run. The Dolphins pushed their lead to nine at 13:40 (21-12), but Old Westbury battled to win 16 of the next 23 points and took the lead, 29-28, with 3:59 remaining in the half. The Panthers would maintain their one-point lead (35-34) at the buzzer.

Old Westbury would expand its lead to six points early in the second frame, and even boasted a nine-point lead with 13:27 remaining in the half. But a 13-4 run by the Dolphins brought the game back even. With 7:07 left in the half, the two sides again found themselves knotted up—57-57 this time—but an 11-0 run over the next five minutes put the hosts up big with less than three minutes remaining. The hill proved too tall to climb and the Panthers eventually were beaten 78-68.

A tightly contested game in nearly all areas, it was in the paint that the Dolphins dominated. They outscored the Panthers 40-24 in that vein and Old Westbury provided no answer.

Floyd Leroy was Old Westbury's top scorer with 15 points. Omari Trebuse scored 11 and dished out a game-high seven assists, while Andrew Andries picked up Old Westbury's only double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds). Mark Gjonlekajrecorded three blocks.

Mount Saint Vincent's Brandon Serrano scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues its conference campaign on Tuesday (February 4) when they host its rival, the Farmingdale State Rams. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.
