Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's basketball team dropped a 52-49 heartbreaker to visiting 24th-ranked St. Mary's (Md.) in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  The Saints battled back from a 10 point deficit with less than five minutes remaining to tie things up with 23 seconds remaining before falling on a three-pointer from during the Seahawks final possession of the game.

Reed Scott led the Saints with a game-high 16 points while JC Hoellich added 11 and Colin Burkhardt chipped in 10.  Hoellich also pulled down a game-best nine rebounds with Scott adding eight.

A back-and-forth first half saw five ties and three lead changes.  Marymount would jump to an early 7-2 lead before SMC (12-4, 6-2 CAC) responded with five answered points to tie things up.  St. Mary's wouldn't take its first lead of the game until the 5:22 mark and only led by as many as four points before taking a 23-20 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Seahawks opened the frame on a 14-5 run to take a 37-25 lead just five minutes in.  Marymount battled back courtesy of an 8-0 run to pull within four down 37-33 but St. Mary's responded with a 7-0 outburst of its own to lead 44-33 with nine minutes remaining.

The Saints began to slowly chip away at the SMC lead before the Seahawks hit a three-pointer to lead 49-39 with 4:48 remaining.  Undaunted, the Saints would fight back and hold St. Mary's scoreless while putting together a 10-0 run capped by a pair of Jesse Konadu free throws with 23 ticks remaining.  After a timeout, St. Mary's played for the last shot and ended its five minute scoring drought with the game-winner in the final seconds.

Nick LaGuerre led St. Mary's with 14 points including the game-winning three-pointer at the end.
