REDLANDS, CA – Despite holding the edge in made field goals, the Caltech men's basketball team fell in a road contest to Redlands 82-69.

The Beavers held a 28-21 edge in shots made, including a 9-8 advantage in three-pointers, but couldn't overcome the point production Redlands had at the foul line. The Bulldogs went 32-for-40 from the charity stripe while Caltech converted on four of their 14 free throw attempts.

Although Caltech found themselves down as many as 22 points in the first half, the Beavers chipped away with solid defense and efficient shooting in second half.

During the final 20 minutes the Beavers held the home team to just 30 percent (6-for-20) from the field while hitting on 44.4 percent (16-for-36) of their field goal attempts in nearly producing the comeback.

With 9:46 left in the game, Caltech got their deficit down to single digits as a Nasser Al-Rayes lay-up made the score 62-54. Redlands score six straight points over the next 90-plus seconds to push their lead to 68-54. However, Caltech had one final scoring drive left.

The Beaver capped off a 12-4 scoring spurt with a Bryan Joel three-pointer to make the score 72-66 with just under four minutes remaining. Caltech had an opportunity to cut their deficit down to five points a few possessions later but Eric Radford blocked an Andrew Hogue shot with just over a minute left. Redlands sealed the game at the foul line by hitting six of their final eight from the foul line.

The junior combination of Bryan Joel and Hogue each hit seven field goals to lead the Caltech offense. Joel came off the bench to score a team high 19 points, 15 of which came from his five made three-pointers, in 25 minutes of court time. Hogue tallied 16 points while grabbing a team high eight rebounds.

David LeBaron came off the bench to score a career high 11 points while Kc Emezie chipped-in a 10-point evening.
