NEW YORK --- Anthony Lewis scored 18 points with 13 rebounds and Manfred Cadet dished out seven assists as the City College of New York men's basketball team defeated visiting Lehman College, 69-65, on Saturday at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Beavers of CCNY improve to 3-7 overall and 2-4 against CUNYAC opponents while the Lightning of Lehman drop to 8-6 and 3-3 in the conference standings.

Lewis overcame a tough shooting performance to score 12 of his points in the second half while collecting two steals. Cadet had one of his best games of the season, with nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists and the steal. Khalil Hamer attacked the rim with a vengeance, scoring 16 points with six rebounds, two assists and two steals and going 10-of-13 from the line. Jordan Ortega finished with 11 points on nine shots and pulled down 10 rebounds. Nathan Lopez had his best game of the year, scoring 13 points and making three out of four shots from behind the arc. Guilherme Brodt finished with three blocks.

For the Lightning, Kelvin Gil led the way with 18 points, five rebounds and two steals. Gil shot four of eight from downtown. Jonathan Greenfield contributed 17 while pulling down seven boards, and Stanley Stephens came through with 13 and five.

The two conference opponents played evenly early on, with CCNY slowly building a small lead. The Beavers went up by eight with 5:08 remaining in the first half off a three by Lopez. The teams went into halftime with City leading 33-28.

In the second, the Beavers extended their lead to 50-39 with 12:09 remaining in the game on a short put-back jumper by Cadet. Lehman would rally, however, scoring nine straight points to cut the lead to two, a run capped off by a steal and a fast-break layup from Greenfield with 9:08 left. CCNY held strong, however, turning to the hot-shooting of Lopez and Hamer's ability to draw contact. Gil hit a huge three with 1:11 remaining to pull the Lightning within two once again, and the Beavers faced a critical possession. Brodt saved a turnover with the clock winding down, tipping the ball to Lewis who went in for the layup, the final basket of the game.

The Beavers will look to make it two in a row on Monday when they travel to the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m.
