Cortland Outscores Buffalo State, 102-91

CORTLAND, NY—Kevin McMahon had 35 points and 11 rebounds to lead host Cortland (8-3/3-1) to a 102-91 victory over Buffalo State (6-4/2-1) in a SUNYAC game tonight at Corey Gym.

Five Bengals scored in double digits, led by junior guard Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) with 23 points.  Bradley Doyley (Brooklyn/Sports Management HS) had a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists and hit a 60-foot buzzer beater to close the first half.  Maurice Miles (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) added 15 points off the bench.  Chris Castren (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) chipped in 11 points, and Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) had 10 points and six rebounds.

The Bengals closed the first half with a 10-0 run in just over a minute, including Doyley's three-quarter-court heave, and trailed just 50-49 heading into the locker room.  Buffalo State led briefly on three separate occasions in the second half, but Cortland pulled away late, scoring 15 of the final 19 points at the free-throw line.

Cortland shot 57-percent from the field for the game, compared to 49-percent by the Bengals.  Buffalo State outscored the Red Dragons 39-21 from 3-point range to stay within striking distance, but Cortland finished 31 of 54 at the charity stripe.  Buffalo State was just 4 of 12 at the free-throw line.

Buffalo State will visit Oswego tomorrow for another league game at 4 p.m.
