Patterson leads Concordia Texas to fifth consecutive win on Saturday

MARSHALL, Texas –
Dwayne Patterson was one assist shy of a triple-double and the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team captured its fifth consecutive win with an 88-78 victory in overtime against East Texas Baptist on Saturday at Ornelas Gymnasium.

Patterson racked up game highs with 22 points and 13 rebounds to go along with his nine assists, five steals and one blocked shot in 40 minutes of action. The 6-foot-5, 205 senior foward was 8-of-16 from the floor and 6-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, Concordia Texas (8-2, 5-2 ASC) had three other players reach double figures – Adam Whitlock (17 points), Brett DeMetrotion (16) and Josh Sanchez (15).

The Tigers (4-6, 2-5 ASC) tied up the game at 74-74 on Jamil Samuel's dunk with 34 seconds left in regulation. Concordia was unable to to score on the final possession of the second half.

In overtime, the Tornados outscored ETBU 14-4. Concordia opened the extra session with a 12-2 run to pull away for good.

Samuel paced the Tigers with 14 points, while Justin Felicia racked up a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards.

• Concordia played its first overtime game since topping Sul Ross State, 94-86, in an extra session on Feb. 2, 2012.

• The Tornados are 3-0 behind the starting lineup of Josh Sanchez, Andre Potts, Adam Whitlock, Patterson and Brett DeMetrotion.
• DeMetrotion's 16 points matched a career high, which he set against Sul Ross State on Dec. 7, 2013.
