Riester's 28 Leads UMW Men's Basketball to 80-60 Win over York; Eagles' Win Streak at Eight

Senior guard Bradley Riester scored 28 points in 29 minutes, and added nine rebounds to lead the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to an 80-60 Capital Athletic Conference win over visiting York College on Saturday. The Eagles improve to 10-1 overall, and 4-0 in league play.

The Eagles forged a 29-point halftime lead, thanks in large part to 10-18 shooting as a team from three-point range. After the teams traded baskets to start the game, the Eagles scored nine straight to take command. three pointers from Dylan Farinet and Taylor and a three-point play from John Lutkenhaus provided the points in the run.

A 19-0 Eagle run midway through the half extended the lead to 31, at 41-10, with 7:12 remaining. Riester scored nine in that span. Another three from Riester built the lead to a first-half high 33 points at 52-19 with 2:01 left, and UMW held a 52-23 lead at intermission.

The Eagles outscored the Spartans, 15-7, to open the second half, to open the lead to a game-high 40 points at 70-30 with 12:58 to play. The Spartans answered with a 17-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to 70-47 with 5:30 remaining, and after UMW returned the lead to 25, York chipped away to force the final score to 80-60.

Riester scored 28 points on 9-16 shooting, including 7-11 three pointers, and led all players with nine rebounds. Farinet scored 14 for the Eagles on 5-11 shooting and added eight rebounds and a career-high six assists. York was led by Ryan Beaver's 14 points.

The Eagles shot 43.1% from the floor (28-65), including 18-34 (53.9%) in the first half, and connected for 16-33 three pointers on the day. York shot 40.4% from the field, making 7-23 long-range attempts. The Eagles controlled the glass with a 50-24 rebounding advantage.

Mary Washington will visit Salisbury University on Wednesday in another CAC contest at 8:00 p.m. from Maryland's Eastern Shore.
