Miami, Fla.—A late second half run by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team came up short as Goucher College (Md.) came away with an 83-76 win in the second day of the 2013 Adidas Holiday Slam tournament at Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of the Florida Christian School.

The Corsairs fall to an overall record of 6-4, while the Gophers move back to .500 on the year with a record of 5-5.

UMass Dartmouth had three starters finish with double-digit point totals with junior Jake Laga (Northampton, Mass.) leading the team with 22 points.  Freshman Tucker Bouchard (Kingston, Mass.) contributed a well-rounded effort with 14 points to go with seven boards, six helpers and three steals and sophomore Wale Abraham (Lynn, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 18 caroms.

Goucher sophomore Julian Livingston (Bowie, Md.) led all scorers with 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting from the field, while classmate Kevin Miles (District Heights, Md.) added 17 of his own.  Junior Alex Noble (Clinton, Md.) contributed eight points, dished out 13 assists and grabbed eight rebounds and sophomore Norman Allen II (Bowie, Md.) put in 11 points in 16 minutes of action off the bench.

The Corsairs grabbed an early 16-6 advantage after sophomore Abi Akanni (Fitchburg, Mass.) knocked down a three pointer set up by Abraham with 14:10 to go in the first. With a tick over seven  minutes remaining in the half, Livingston gave the Gophers their first lead of the game when he put home two of his eight first half points. A three pointer by Allen II with seconds remaining would give Goucher a 40-37 lead at the intermission.

The Gophers opened the second half with a 10-4 run capped by a free throw by Livingston with 16:29 to play. Four minutes later a jumper by Steven Handy (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) brought the Corsairs within three points (54-51).

Missed free throws down the stretch by Goucher gave the Corsairs an opportunity to get back in the game, but Little East Conference team could not capitalize.

The Gophers shot 50.8 percent as a team for the game, while the Corsairs out rebounded their opponent 47-41, including 17 on the offensive end.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action when they travel to Western Connecticut State University for a conference matchup on Thursday, January 9 at 7:30 p.m.
