Land of Magic anything but as Blue Devils fall to Plattsburgh State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla (December 30, 2013) - Playing without their two leading scorers, UW-Stout did not have enough firepower and lost, 62-40, to Plattsburgh State Monday at the Land of Magic Classic at Embry-Rddle's ICI Center.

WIth leading scorers Jimmy Whitehead (Sr, La Crosse) and Alex Oman (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn) sitting out due to injuries suffered in their loss to Millikin Saturday, put up their lowest point total of the season as the team's overall record fell to 7-3.

Both teams shot poorly in the first half, with Plattsburgh taking a 22-19 lead into intermission. Stout shot 32 percent (8-25), while Plattsburgh shot 31.8 percent (7-22).

But the Cardinals (6-2) heated up in the second half, jumping out to a 33-21 lead six minutes after the break, and built up as much as a 26 point lead. Plattsburgh shot 52 percent (13-25) in the second half, the Blue Devils 23.8 percent (5-21). For the game, Plattsburgh shot 42.6 percent (20-47) and the Blue Devils shot 28.3 percent (13-46). Stout outrebounded Plattsburgh, 38-21, but for the second consecutive game, Stout committed more than 20 turnovers, tallying 23.

Aaron Jenny (Sr, Spicer, Minn) led Stout with 10 points. Brett Ahsenmacher (Fr, Annandale, Minn) finished with nine points. Josh Kosloske (Sr, Oakfield) had a game-high seven rebounds.

The Cardinals had a pair of players score in double figures. Shamoy McIntosh led all players with 22 points, connecting on 4-of-8 3-pointers, and matched Kosloske with seven rebounds. Shavar Fields had 14 points.

Stout will return to Menomonie to begin a four-game homestand when they host UW-Eau Claire Saturday, Jan 4 at approximately 5 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's programs. Whitehead and Oman are expected to be available Saturday,
