Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team was handed its sixth straight loss on Thursday night following a hard fought 59-53 league loss to visiting Yeshiva. Seniors Gerard Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Kevin Henry (Yonkers, N.Y.) each finished with a career-high 14 points for the Mount.

 

Mount Saint Vincent got off to a good start in the contest, jumping out to a 15-8 lead at the 10:59 mark of the first half on a Fraser lay-in. The Dolphins moved in front by eight, matching their largest advantage of the half, on a Henry bucket at 4:46 and held Yeshiva to just four points over the final 5:03 of the period to carry a 30-22 advantage into the intermission.

 

The Dolphins shot 48.3-percent from the floor in the first half and held Yeshiva to a 27.3-percent conversion rate in building the lead. Fraser and Henry led the Mount with eight points in the first half, with Yisrael Feld netting eight for the visitors.

 

Mount Saint Vincent came out of the break and took its largest lead of the night, at 33-22, on a Fraser free-throw at the 17:47 mark. Yeshiva would answer with a 19-3 run over a 10:06 stretch to pull in front 41-36 on a Shelby Rosenberg free-throw with 7:41 left in regulation. Yeshiva went 6-for-9 from the floor over the run and held the Dolphins to 1-for-11 shooting. The Mount would go 8:32 between the Fraser free-throw and a Henry conversion to cut the Yeshiva lead to 36-35.  

 

The Maccabees would move in front by their largest margin of the night when a Yoni Eckmann free-throw pushed them in front 50-42 with 2:58 left in the contest. The Dolphins would get the next six points, including a three-point play from Brandon Serrano (Hempstead, N.Y.), but Yeshiva went 9-for-10 from the free-throw line over the final two minutes to secure the road victory.

 

Feld scored 19 of his game-high 27 points after halftime for the Maccabees and went 10-for-12 from the free-throw line after the break. He also grabbed six rebounds in the win for the visitors. Benjy Ritholtz finished with 11 points and a team-high three assists, while Shlomo Weissberg hauled in a team-high nine rebounds.

 

Fraser posted his first double-double in a Mount Saint Vincent uniform after reaching career-highs in scoring and rebounding. He wrapped up the game 6-for-15 from the floor and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Dolphins. Henry reached his career-high by going 7-for-11 from the floor to go along with seven boards and a pair of helpers.

 

Serrano rounded out a trio in double-figures for Mount Saint Vincent with 11 points and six caroms and Christian Giles (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) handed out a game-high seven assists and recorded five points.

 

Mount Saint Vincent shot 22.6-percent from the floor after halftime on Thursday and finished the game at 35-percent. Yeshiva shot 31.6-percent for the game, but knocked in two more three-point field goals then the Mount and outscored the Dolphins 19-9 from the free-throw line.

 

Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-6 overall on the season and to 0-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will return to action on December 18 when they tussle with Lawrence University as part of the Cruzin' Classic. Tip-off from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Is set for 8:00 p.m.
