Warhawk Men Fall to Stout, First Loss of Season

More news about: UW-Whitewater

Whitewater took its first lead, 16-15, at the 10:05 mark on an Eric Bryson (Elkhorn/Elkhorn) free throw.   That would prove to be the only time UW-W led in the contest.  That lead lasted twenty seconds, when Hank Kujak hit a three pointer to give the Blue Devils an 18-16 lead. Quardell Young (Kenosha/Bradford)'s jumper knotted the game at 18-18 at the 9:27 mark.

Stout's lead over the final minutes of the half reached seven points, on three occasions, and UW-S went into the locker room with a 39-34 advantage.

Senior forward Reggie Hearn (Milwaukee/Marshall)'s free throw with 16:11 left in the game pulled the Warhawks within one, 39-38.  Stout's lead stayed in the single digits until senior guard Jimmy Whitehead hit a three with 5:40 left to push the margin to 61-51.  With 3:33 remaining Whitehead hit a pair of free throws to give UW-S its largest lead of the contest, 69-58.  A three by Bryson got UW-W back within four, 70-56, with 1:45 left.

Stout shot 59% from the field and 47% from beyond the arc.  Whitewater shot 56% from the floor in the first half, but that dropped to 42% in the last twenty minutes.  The Warhawks committed just eight turnovers but struggled at the free throw line, going 16-26.

Four Warhawks scored in double figures, with Hearn and Bryson in the lead with 15 apiece.  Hearn led both teams with nine rebounds.  Young was also in double figures scoring with 11, while dishing out a game high five assists.  Junior forward KJ Evans (Beloit/Beloit Memorial) added 12 points.  Blue Devil senior forward Alex Oman led all scorers with 20 points.  Whitehead, a senior guard added 19 and led UW-S with four assists.  Aaron Jenny, also a senior guard, and senior center Josh Kosloske scored twelve points each, with Jenny topping UW-S with six boards.

UW-W will travel to second-ranked UW-Stevens Point Wednesday for a 7:00 tipoff in Quandt Fieldhouse.
