St. Louis, Mo., December 1, 2013 — Senior guard Alan Aboona scored 20 of his season-high 24 points in the second half as the No. 4-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 71-60 win over No. 25 DePauw University Sunday afternoon at the WU Field House in St. Louis.

Aboona was 5-of-11 from the field and hit 13-of-14 from the free-throw line as he eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the fourth time in his career. Washington U. connected on 22-of-31 from the foul line in the win, including 18-of-24 in the second half.

Senior forward Chris Klimek added 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while senior guard Tim Cooney had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the third double-double of his career. Junior guard David Fatoki added a career-best nine points and six boards in 21 minutes off the bench.

Cooney had the hot hand for Washington U. early in the contest scoring nine of the first 14 points for the Bears. He nailed a pair of three-pointers from the corner, and his steal and three-point play gave Washington U. a 14-12 lead.

DePauw (4-1) scored the next eight points to take a 20-14 lead after three-pointers by Bob Dillon and Michael Wilkison. The Tigers took their largest of the game at 31-20 with 4:33 to play after a bucket by Camron Burns.

Washington U. head coach Mark Edwardscalled a full timeout following the bucket by Burns', and the Bears responded with an 8-0 run to make it 31-28 at half. DePauw was 0-for-6 from the field in the final four minutes, and shot 41.4 percent (12-29) from the field in the first half. The Tigers were 6-for-13 in the opening half from three-point range.

Cooney and Klimek led the Bears with nine points in the first half, as the Bears shot 44 percent (11-25) from the field. Washington U. was 4-of-7 from the free-throw line and outrebounded DePauw, 18-15.

Aboona scored nine-straight points for Washington U. early in the second half as the Bears held onto a 41-39 lead. He canned his only three-pointer off game on the wing to make it 48-47.

Trailing 52-50 with 7:50 to play, the Bears went on a 12-0 run to get the lead back to double figures (62-52). During the decisive run, Washington U.'s defense limited DePauw to 0-for-7 shooting from the field. The Tigers shot 30.8 percent (8-26) in the second half and hit just 5-of-17 three-pointers.

Pat Haggin (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Adam Botts (11 points) scored in double figures for DePauw, which suffered its first loss of the season. The Tigers were 11-of-30 from three-point range and hit 9-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Washington U. (5-1) takes on No. 7 Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m., in Bloomington, Ill.
