Men's Basketball Bests MCLA 83-62

The New York University men's basketball team earned the 83-62 victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday afternoon, November 23, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. NYU has now begun the season 3-0.

The Violets were led by the frontcourt duo of sophomores Costis Gontikas and Evan Kupferberg. Gontikas led all scorers with 21 points, while pulling down six rebounds, dishing out three assists, and blocking two shots. Kupferberg chipped in 18 points while registering eight boards and two assists.

In all, NYU dished out 23 assists as a team.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Senior co-captain guard Ryan Tana scored seven points, while dishing out seven assists.

- Sophomore point guard Max Ralby scored eight points points with five assists and three steals, while also grabbing seven rebounds.

- Freshman forwards Romas Marcinkevicius (five rebounds) and Alex Papesch (eight points, 6-for-6 at the free throw line) contributed to the stellar frontcourt play as well.

- The Trailblazers were led Jeremic Bennett's 13 points and seven rebounds.

"Our team is doing a good job of finding our post players, and then we're finishing strong, so it's certainly a big part of our success," said Head Coach Joe Nesci. "The pace of the game really dictated that we were going to be able to get some playing time for our key reserves. We have a lot of confidence in those guys to produce and play well, and they did a good job today."

NYU will be back on the court on Tuesday, November 26, at NYU-Poly in Brooklyn. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m., as the Violets face the Blue Jays in the second half of a women-men doubleheader.
