St. Louis, Mo., November 17, 2013 – Senior Alan Aboona scored a season-high 22 points to lead the No. 11-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team to a 91-64 win over Hendrix College Sunday afternoon in St. Louis.

Aboona was 8-of-13 from the field, and knocked down four three-pointers in the win. Senior Chris Klimek (14 points, nine rebounds), junior Matt Palucki (12 points, 12 rebounds), senior Tim Cooney (12 points) and junior Nick Burt (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Bears. The double-double for Palucki was the fifth of his career.

Washington U. shot 50.7 percent (34-67) from the field in the win, including 62.1 percent (18-29) in the second half. The Bears outrebounded Hendrix, 48-25, and had a 50-22 edge in points in the paint.

Washington U. rode the hot hand of Aboona in the first half as the Bears built a 43-36 halftime advantage. Aboona and Cooney knocked down a pair of three-pointers each early in the contest as Washington U. led 18-10. An 11-1 run by the Bears got the lead up to 26-11 after back-to-back lay-ups by Aboona.

Aboona scored 10 of the Bears' 12 points during a 12-0 run as the Bears built their largest lead of the half at 38-16 with 6:16 to play. Hendrix would not go away as a 13-2 run got the lead down to 11 (40-29) and forced WUSTL head coach Mark Edwards to call a 30-second timeout.

The Bears shot 42.1 percent (16-38) in the first half, and hit 6-of-14 from three-point range. Hendrix shot 50 percent (13-26) from the field in the opening half and was led by Hank Aldous's 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Washington U. put the game out of reach with a 25-1 run to start the second half to push the lead to 61-38 with 13:40 to play. After Aboona picked his third foul early in the half, junior David Fatoki replaced Aboona at point guard and sparked Washington U. as the Bears scored 25-straight points. Hendrix did not record a field goal for the opening 8:41 and shot just 30.4 percent (7-23) in the second half.

Fatoki was exceptional for the second-straight game off the bench with four points, seven assists, three rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Brandon Staffeil added a career-best eight points and five boards off the bench.

Aldous (17 points), Colton Primm (15) and Will Roland (10) all scored in double figures for Hendrix (1-1), which committed 20 turnovers and shot 53.1 percent (17-32) from the foul line.

Washington U. (2-0) hosts the 30th Annual Lopata Classic Friday-Saturday, Nov. 22-23, at the WU Field House. The Bears take on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Friday at 8 p.m., followed by a matchup with Whitman College Saturday at 8 p.m.

Bear Notebook: This was the first meeting in school history between the two teams … The victory for Edwards was the 585th of his career … Aboona had five assists in the win to move past Brent Rueter (1983-87) into ninth in school history with 291.
