Hope Men's Basketball Loses Exhibition at Division II Grand Valley State

Guard Corey McMahon scored a team-high 21 points for the Hope men's basketball team during a 90-84 exhibition loss at NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University on Thursday night.

The junior from Glenview, Ill., (Glenbrook South HS) shot 6-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. He also made 5-of-6 foul shots.

Two other Hope starters reached double figures. Sophomore point guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Ind., (Carmel HS) scored 18 points by shooting 8-of-10 from the foul line and 4-of-15 from the field.

Sophomore guard Alex Eidson of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS) chipped in 16 points. He shot 6-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-8 from 3-point ranger.

The Flying Dutchmen made 12 3-pointers on 46.2 shooting from 3-point range (12-of-26).

Hope cut a 17-point deficit 7 ½ minutes into the second half down to six with 5:44 remaining after an Eidson 3-pointer cut the GVSU lead to 73-67. The Lakers, however, answered with an 8-1 run over the next 3 ½ minutes.
