Reading, Pa. (Feb. 2, 2013) - Sophmore forward Terrance Bridgers (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) set a career high scoring 30 points in Alvernia University's (16-4, 11-3) 78-57 victory over Elizabethtown College (7-14, 4-10) on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action at the Physical Education Center.

Bridgers shot 11-13 from the field including a perfect 4-4 from 3-point range, he also brought down eight rebounds. Bridgers' points were split up evenly giving him 15 in each half.

The first half saw solid play from both teams as Elizabethtown stayed with Alvernia for the opening 20 minutes. Entering the half, the Crusaders carried just a 4-point advantage, 36-32.

Three minutes into the second half, Bridgers sunk a 3-pointer that sparked 26-3 Crusaders' run. The dominating run lasted nearly seven minutes and saw five different Crusaders score points. The surge proved to be enough to put the Blue Jays away.

Other contributing offensive players included Kahlil Bennett (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), who finished with 17, and Brian Parker (Chichester, Pa/Chichester) with 11.

As a team, the Crusaders shot 48 percent from the field and 80 percent from the line. The shooting was a marked improvement for Alvernia compared to its last matchup against Albright where its shot just 32 percent from the field and 46 precent on free throws.

The Crusaders continue to rely on their starting lineup as the bench played minimally and posted just five points for the game.

Head coach Mike Miller said, "Besides Terrance with his career high, Lamont Clark (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara Area) and Chris Davis (Norristown Pa/Norristown) did a great job defensively on their two high scorers Ben Cable and Joe Shwalm. That was the difference of the game. "

Schwalm was hot early hitting all five first-half shots he took, but was held to just two points after halftime.  He finished with 14.  Cable finished with 12.

With the win, the Crusaders remained tied with Albright College for first place in the Commonwealth Conference. Alvernia looks to continue their winning ways when they host York College in a non-conference game on Monday night.
