Balanced Scoring Leads UW-L Men's Basketball Team to Victory

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 62-48 victory over UW-Stout Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 15-7 overall and 8-5 in the WIAC while the Blue Devils fall to 17-5 overall and 9-4 in the conference. UW-Stout is receiving votes on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll. It is UW-L's 13th win in the last 15 meetings with UW-Stout. 

The Eagles never trailed in the first half, leading by as many as six points. The game was tied 20-20 with 4:40 left after UW-Stout's Chris Hortman hit a three-pointer, but UW-L ended the half scoring the last five points to lead 25-20. Braden Tice made a three-point field goal with 2:29 remaining and Jeff Heiden a jumper with 1:06 left. 

UW-Stout opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take its first lead at 27-25 on Aaron Jenny's layup. Lucas Morrissey tied the game with a jumper and Tice gave the Eagles the lead for good at 30-27 with a three-pointer with 16:25 remaining. The Blue Devils cut it to 30-29, but the Eagles scored the next five points. 

The Blue Devils later trailed 46-41 with 9:23 remaining, but the Eagles used a 16-5 run to lead 62-46. UW-L hit six-of-eight shots from the field in the run. 

Heiden led UW-L with 15 points, finishing six-of-eight from the field, including three-of-five from three-point range. Morrissey had 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds while Tice finished with 10 points. Morrissey was two-of-five from three-point range while Tice was three-of-five.

UW-L shot 44.0% from the field, including 44.8% (13-of-29) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 66.7% (eight-of-12) from three-point range in the second half. UW-L shot 62.5% (five-of-eight) at the free throw line in the game. 

Alex Oman and Hortman led UW-Stout with 10 points each. 

UW-Stout shot 39.6% from the field, but missed all 11 of its three-point attempts. The Blue Devils shot 71.4% (10-of-14) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 9 at UW-Platteville at 3 p.m.
