BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team (6-12, 4-7 SUNYAC) allowed The College at Brockport (12-7, 7-5 SUNYAC) to close on a 38-18 run, as the Golden Eagles won, 93-70, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday afternoon at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

Brockport hopped out to a 15-1 lead, and a three-pointer by John Ivy gave the Golden Eagles a 22-8 edge with 11:19 to go in the first half. Behind four points from senior forward Matt Devine (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township), the Hawks went on a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to single digits, and after the two squads battled back and forth, New Paltz went on an 11-0 tear to draw within one. Senior guard/forward Shereef Taylor (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) made a layup to pull the score to 27-26 in favor of Brockport with 5:31 to go in the first stanza. Neither team was able to maintain significant momentum down the stretch, and the Golden Eagles entered the break with a 38-34 lead.

Brockport led by as many as 10 in the early goings of the second half, but the Hawks continued to chip away until Devine drew New Paltz within two (52-50) with a pair of made free throws at 13:21 of the second half. Devine once again made two free throws to pull the Hawks within three at 11:36 of the second half, but that would be the closest New Paltz would get the rest of the game.

Devine shot 14-of-16 from the line to lead the Hawks with 26 points. It marks the second time in as many games that the senior forward has scored at least 25 points. Taylor was the only other double-digit scorer for New Paltz, as he scored 15 points. Devine paced the team on the glass with eight boards.

For Brockport, Ivy netted 32 points—a game-high total—while Jordan Major (23), Mike Gallagher (12) and Osusola Adeniran (10) all reached double figures as well. Major registered a double-double by adding 11 rebounds to his point total. Matt Lee dished out a game-high seven assists and also had four blocked shots.

The Hawks were hampered by 30.0 percent (18-of-60) shooting from the floor, including a 5-of-22 mark (22.7 percent) from distance. They salvaged their poor shooting from the field at the line, though, going 29-of-38 (76.3 percent). Brockport, meanwhile, was 47.8 percent (32-of-67) from the floor and 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from three-point range. New Paltz held a 48-40 edge on the glass, but Brockport forced the Hawks into 18 turnovers.

New Paltz looks to stop its five-game skid on Friday, Feb. 1, as it takes on SUNY Potsdam at 8 p.m. at the Hawk Center.
