WHITEWATER, Wis. – In a battle between two of the top teams in NCAA Division III men's basketball, No. 6 UW-Stevens Point upset No. 2 UW-Whitewater Wednesday night, 72-61.

Four Pointers scored in double-figures as UWSP shot 50 percent from the floor.

UWSP built a seven point lead with less than two minutes remaining in the first half when Jordan Lutz (Amherst, WI/Amherst) hit a layup assisted by Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph).

A three-pointer by the Warhawks' Darnell Harris with six seconds left in the half cut the Pointer lead to 30-28 entering halftime.

After an early second-half basket by the Warhawks, the Pointers exploded for a 12-0 run that was capped off by a Lutz three-pointer to put UWSP on top 42-30.  

The Pointers maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

Trevor Hass (New London, WI/New London/Augustana (SD)) and Austin Ryf (Winneconne, WI/Winneconne) led all scorers with 18 points apiece. Lutz added 11 points and Tillema scored 10.

UWSP held the Warhawks to just 40 percent shooting from the floor in the second half.

In all, UWW shot 5-for-22 from behind the arc and 8-for-19 from the line.

Two players scored in double figures for the Warhawks. Eric Bryson finished with 15 points and Darnell Harris added 10.

The Pointers return home Saturday, Dec. 15 to host Edgewood at 7p.m.
