Albion pays for missing free throws

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College missed 14 free throws in a 70-65 loss to Kenyon College in non-league men's basketball action at Kresge Gymnasium.

Kenyon finished the game on an 11-6 run to pull away after the score was tied at 59 with 3 ½ minutes left. Julian Pavlin put the Lords in front for good with a 3-point basket and Ikenna Nwadibia went 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Nwadibia also tacked on a jumper which put the Lords up 69-63 in the final minute.

Albion ripped off a 6-1 run to take its largest lead of the night, 38-30, two minutes into the second half. Mike Smith and Zach Hurth scored on shots in the lane and Leonard Wernette-Leff sank a pair of free throws.

Albion maintained a seven-point lead, 50-43, as Hurth scored another basket in the lane with 12 ½ minutes to play.

Jonathan Amador made one of his four 3-point baskets, Nwadibia scored in the lane, and Dan Voigt connected from long distance to cut the margin to a single point, 50-49, midway through the second half.

The score was tied four times until Kenyon went on its decisive run.

Nwadibia led all players with 26 points, scoring on 8-of-13 shots from the field and on 10-of-14 shots from the line. Amador produced 18 points off the bench.

Both of Albion's double-figure scorers came off the bench. Lawrence Ridgell finished with 13 and Jordan Herron 10.
