(Waukesha, Wis.) - The Carroll University men's basketball team improved to 3-0 following a 65-59 overtime victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

The battle of top-35 teams lived up to its billing, as the two teams battled neck and neck throughout the game.

Carroll's offense sprang to life in the overtime period, outscoring Rose-Hulman 14-8 in the extra period.

Kevin Hurd led the Pioneers with 13 points while Alec Molter chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Like it had during the open two games of the season, Carroll's offense featured a balanced attack with six players scoring eight or more points, including eight points and 10 rebounds for Tyler Watzlawick off the bench.

Rose-Hulman led 35-32 at the break but Carroll quickly equalized and the game see-sawed down the stretch. The visitors had the final shot at the win in regulation but saw a lay-up by Brenten Balsbaugh rim out at the buzzer.

A three-pointer by Hurd at the start of the overtime period gave the Pioneers a lead they would not relinquish in the five minute overtime period.

Carroll connected on 44.9% of its shots in the low scoring affair while holding Rose-Hulman to 37.9%, including 25.9% in the second half.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they visit fifth-ranked North Central College.
