Seidman, Vernon Lead Rochester Past Mt. St. Mary

Tyler Seidman scored a career-high 23 points to lead four men in double figures as the University of Rochester defeated Mt. St. Mary College, 82-68, to win the Chuck Resler Invitational Nate Vernon added 22 points. John DiBartolomeo had 13 points and Tyler Sankes scored 12. Rochester is 2-0.

Donte Howell scored 23 points to lead Mt. St. Mary. Joe Stabach scored 14, Chris Pisciotta had 13, and Joe Henain had 11 for the Knights (1-1).

Vernon finished with 39 points and 15 rebounds in the two games. He was named the MVP. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by DiBartolomeo, Howell, Stabach, Reed Buck of Merchant Marine, and Kyle Miller of St. Lawrence

Seidman made six of seven outside the arc and Vernon was four of eight. The Yellowjackets shot 50 percent from three-point range 912 of 24). UR had a 45-28 advantage on the glass with five players grabbing at least six rebounds.

Rochester used late first-half scoring runs of 6-0 and 9-0 to build a 14-point lead, 39-25, with 1:37 left. It was 41-29 at halftime. 

Vernon sank a three-pointer to open the second half and give Rochester it's largest lead at 44-29. Mt. St. Mary chipped away. The Knights used back to back three-pointers from Chris Pisciotta and a layup by Joe Henain to pull within 58-52 with 10:43 left. Seidman answered with a three-pointer and DiBartolomeo made two free throws to restore the lead to 63-52 with 10:12 on the clock. 

A layup and free throw from Stabach plus one free throw by Henain pulled MSMC within six again, 66-60, with 6:20 remaining. Kevin Sheehy answered with a three-pointer from the right corner and Sankes put in a layup. That started a 9-2 run over four minutes that put it out of reach.
