Halftime Sandwich Poisons Cobbers

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (12/03/11)—Despite a career-high 22 points from junior point guard Dewon McKenzie, Concordia trailed for almost the entire game against Augsburg and wound up losing 75-59 in Minneapolis on Saturday.  

It is the first conference loss of the year for the Cobbers. CC is now 1-1 in the league and 1-4 in all games. The Auggies remain unbeaten on the year and move to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC.  
 
The pivotal part of the game occurred just before half as the Cobbers trailed by only four points after made jumper from Mckenzie at the 2:33 mark of the first half. Unfortunately CC would then go through a scoreless drought for 4:24 and watched as the four-point deficit turned into a 15-point margin with 18:25 to play in the second half.
    
The Cobbers shot 41.8% (23-for-55) for the game but couldn't contain the Auggie attack as Augsburg shot 48.3 % (29-for-60) from the floor and 38.5% (5-for-13) from 3-point range. The Auggies also enjoyed a 37-26 edge in rebounding.

A game after shooting 52.0% from the free throw line, the Cobbers sharpened their shooting sights and came away with a season-high 90.9% (10-for-11) free throw percentage. CC also only turned the ball over 10 times.  
 
Besides the 22 points from McKenzie, Brandon Fisher came off the bench to lead the team in rebounding. He finished with four points and six rebounds.  Aaron Lindahl added nine points, five rebounds and three assists.

Augsburg had a pair of players account for 46 of the team's 75 points and 19 of the team's 37 rebounds. Cory Palta went 11-for-15 from the floor and finished with a game-high 27 points. He also had 10 rebounds. Andy Grzesiak-Grimm came away with 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Cobbers will return home to host their first conference game of the year. Concordia will square off against St. Mary's on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:45 p.m.
