MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/7/12)— Andrew Martinson hit the game-winning jumper with just over 1:00 to play and Concordia held on to post a 62-60 win over Carleton on Saturday. The Cobbers held a 39-30 lead at the half but then the Knights slowly whittled the lead down until they tied the game at 60-60 with 2:01 to play.

The win ends a two-game losing streak for the Cobbers and also continues Concordia's successful string of games at home. CC is now 4-1 in Memorial Auditorium this season. The Cobbers improve their overall record to 5-7 and they are now 3-4 overall. Carleton falls to 6-6 in all games and 3-4 in league play.

Concordia threatened to run away with the game in the first half as they led by as many as 14 points with under 3:00 to play. The Knights finished off the opening period on an 8-3 run to gain the momentum heading into the second period. Carleton used that surge to cut the lead to five points at the 13:24 mark of the second half. The teams then traded runs before the Knights finally got even with just over 2:00 to play. Both teams missed 3-point field goals on their next possessions before Martinson came up with the game-deciding hoop. The Knights had a chance to tie, or win, the game in the dying seconds of regulation. After the Cobbers were called for a five-second violation trying to inbound the ball on the Carleton baseline, a running 3-point shot from Tom Sawatzke at the buzzer came up just short.

Martinson had a team-high 12 points for Concordia. Junior guard Dewon McKenzie also had 12 points and a game-high four assists for CC. Ebo Nana-Kweson was the third member of the Cobbers to score in double figures. He finished with 11 points. Scott Flotterud came away with a game-high nine rebounds.

Carleton had four players score at least 11 points. The quartet of Caleb Rosenow, Scott Theisen, Shane McSparron and Sawatzke scored all but two of the team's 60 points in the game. Rosenow led all players with 25 points after going 10-for-15 from the floor. He also had eight rebounds.

Concordia will hit the road again for a midweek game at Hamline on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7:45 p.m.
