STEVENSON, Md.--Senior Ramon Smith of the Hood College men's basketball team (13-9, 5-8 CAC) led four Blazers in double figures with a game-high 19 points in a 75-67 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Stevenson University (5-17, 2-11 CAC) Saturday afternoon.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid in conference and keeps the Blazers in the hunt for a CAC playoff berth; Hood is currently one-half game behind sixth-place Salisbury University (12-9, 5-7 CAC), which upset the first-place University of Mary Washington Eagles on the road earlier today. The top six teams qualify for the CAC tournament.

The Blazers, who have been plagued by sub-par foul shooting for most of the season, found their stroke from the stripe when it counted today, making 7-of-8 from the line in the final 1:41 to keep the Mustangs at bay.

Stevenson jumped out to a 7-0 lead at the onset of the first half but the Blazers would eventually knot things up at 19-19 on a Cameron Cook three-pointer with 7:42 to play in the stanza. Smith gave Hood its first lead of the game two possessions later when he knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 23-22. From there the Blazers held the Mustangs scoreless for the final 3:19 of the period and led 37-29 at halftime.

Despite a furious rally, the Mustangs were unable to regain the lead in the second half. Hood withstood the rally by outrebounding the Mustangs, 21-12, and making 10-of-13 from the charity stripe in the second half alone. Greg Collins and Brett Burrier made consecutive three-pointers to make it a one-possession game (66-63) with 1:58 showing on the clock. But Cook, Justin Stone and Adrien Straughn proved their mettle at the foul line to ice the victory for Hood.

Smith was 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the line and had five assists for Hood. Cook finished with 16 points while Lavar Rich had 15 and Stone tallied 11. Reggie Daniels provided a boost off the bench, hitting 4-of-5 from the field in his 20 minutes of action. The Blazers, who swept the season series from the Mustangs, connected on 18-of-32 (.562) from the free throw line and 27-of-53 (.509) from the floor.

Hood looks to keep its momentum going Wednesday when it hosts the Mary Washington Eagles (15-6, 10-2 CAC) at 8 p.m. at BB&T Arena. The Eagles topped the Blazers, 63-51, back on Jan. 18 in Fredericksburg, Va.
