Five Edgewood College Eagles crack double figures in win over Crusaders

MADISON, Wis. - Five Edgewood College men's basketball players scored in double figures and senior Ben Wisniewski broke a 16-year old school record in the Eagles' 75-48 victory over Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday night. The Eagles improved to 7-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference and now face a Thursday night showdown with North Division co-leader Concordia University Wisconsin at the Edgedome.

Edgewood College took over control of the game by going on a 17-2 run in the middle part of the first half to open a 30-13 lead. Wisniewski started the run with a pair of free throws, and ended it with a jump shot in the paint. Earlier in the half, the New Berlin native hit his 202nd and 203rd career three-point basket to break Edgewood College's all-time record. Keith Roberts with 202 three-pointers from 1992-96 was the previous record holder. Wisniewski finished with 14 points, to raise his career point total to 1,499, putting him on the verge of becoming the sixth player in Edgewood College history to score 1,500 points.

Freshman forward Joe Klocek managed to set a new career-high in points by halftime. Klocek hit four of five shots from the field including a pair of three-pointers to match Wisniewski with 10 points at the break. Klocek also set a career-high in rebounds for the second consecutive game, pulling down 12 boards.

The Eagles led 41-20 at halftime after shooting 68.2 percent, and pushed the margin as wide as 32 points at 73-41 with four minutes left to play. The Eagles finished the game at 50.8 percent, cracking the 50 percent mark for the 10th time in 16 games this season.

Joining Wisniewski for game-high honors was sophomore forward Justin Williams. The Milwaukee native scored 14 points on 5-for-6 shooting and matched a career-high with eight rebounds. The other two Eagles in double figures were Derek Nkemnji and Michael Janusek with 10 points apiece. Nkemnji chipped in four assists, while Janusek's scoring total matched his career-high set last season. Dylan Rusch handed out a career-high five assists.

At 7-1, Edgewood College shares the top spot in the NAC North Division with Concordia University Wisconsin who defeated Lakeland College 70-69 on Tuesday evening. The Eagles and Falcons will clash in a pivotal game on Thursday night at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The game can be seen live on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
