WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Edgewood College men's basketball team had their second chance to knock off a ranked team in their last three games, but couldn't keep up with the 10th-ranked Warhawks of UW-Whitewater on Wednesday night. The Warhawks pulled away in the second half for a 79-51 victory at Kachel Gymnasium.

Edgewood College (10-2) played UW-Whitewater even through the first 12 minutes of the game. Cashton Craig and Ben Wisniewski got the Eagles off to an early 5-2 lead with a three-point basket and a jump shot, respectively. Trailing 18-11 eight minutes into the first half, the Eagles' Wisniewski drilled a three-point shot and Kent Faurote followed with a pair of free throws to cut the lead down to three points. After two free throws from UWW's Lucas Burns, Edgewood College's Justin Williams scored back-to-back buckets including a dunk to tie the game at 20 apiece.

From that point, however, UW-Whitewater (12-1) would make their move. The Warhawks would score 10 of the next 12 points including three-point baskets for Josh Glenn and Charlie Fischer. Ultimately, UW-Whitewater would close the half on a 16-6 and take a 36-26 lead into halftime. Edgewood College had shot 55 percent in the first half, but had nine turnovers.

A Faurote layup early in the second half brought the Eagles deficit back to nine points at 37-28, but that would be as close as Edgewood College would get. UW-Whitewater would go on a 16-5 run, which ended with a Faurote three-pointer, to assume control of the game.

Faurote would lead Edgewood College with 19 points and nine rebounds. His third rebound of the game pushed him past 500 for his career and made him the ninth Eagle in school history to reach 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. Wisniewski scored seven of his nine points in the first half and had a team-high four assists. Williams added eight points and Craig seven. The Eagles shot 43.5 percent for the game, but went just 4-for-17 from the three-point line.

UW-Whitewater had four scorers in double figures, led by Chris Davis who scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half. Burns came off the bench to score 17 points. The Warhawks shot 52.7 percent and committed just seven turnovers.

Edgewood College has now concluded their non-conference schedule with a 6-2 record, with both losses coming to ranked opponents. The Eagles, undefeated in the Northern Athletics Conference at 4-0, will try to defend their perfect league mark against MSOE on Saturday. The Eagles and Raiders will tipoff from Milwaukee at 4:15 p.m.
