Stanley Drops 30 in Win Over SUNYIT in Tampa Classic

In their final challenge on the 2011 calendar, the Maryville College men's basketball team advanced to 7-5 on the season with a 77-57 win over SUNYIT in the consolation match-up of the 2011 Tampa Classic.

MC senior Milton Stanley exploded for 16 points in 17 minutes of action during the first half to help the Scots earn a 35-17 halftime advantage over the Utica, New York squad. Stanley was 6-of-8 shooting from the floor while going 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. The Scots held the Wildcats to 14% shooting (4-for-28) while forcing 11 turnovers to gain the 18 point advantage before the intermission.

The Scots shot 48% from the field for the second half while Stanley maintained his torrid shooting pace.  The Oviedo, Florida native finished with a game-high 30 points on 13-for-17 shooting. He also contributed six rebounds and six assists in the twenty point victory. Freshman guard Alex Rivera added 11 points after connecting on a trio of three-pointers.  MC out-rebounded the Wildcats behind the 9 rebound and 9 points effort of senior Donald Rucker. Craig Raye added 7 rebounds to help Mc on the boards.

SUNYIT (1-8) was led by Derek Rowe's 14 points and 15 rebounds. Sejad Gromilic finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Maryville will return to action next Tuesday and Wednesday when they host the 2012 James C. Campbell Memorial Tournament. On Tuesday, Wittenberg will take on Huntingdon in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium at 5:00 p.m. while the Scots will host Rust with a projected 7:00 p.m. tip-off. Wednesday's action will begin at 2:00 as Huntingdon will play Rust. Maryville will host Wittenberg beginning at 4:00.
