THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 8, 2011) – The Maritime men's basketball team lost to visiting Mount Saint Vincent Thursday night in Skyline Conference action, 80-76, at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. In defeat, the Privateers fall to 1-8 (1-2 Skyline) on the season, while the Dolphins improve to 2-5 (1-2 Skyline).

Grad student Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y./Math, Sci. & Engin.) led all players with 29 points and recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds. Senior Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) chipped in with 20 points, while dishing out five assists.

The game was tight throughout, as the Dolphins only led by just one point, 33-32, going into the halftime break. In the second half, the Privateers took a two-point lead on two free throws by McSloy at 13:20 that made the score 43-41. Maritime built the lead to as much as eight points, 53-45, after two more free throws by McSloy at 9:08.

The Dolphins went on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 55-55 with 7:51 remaining. After back-and-forth play, Mount Saint Vincent was able to extend its lead up to seven points, 77-70, with just 29 seconds remaining, putting the game out of reach.

Four players scored in double-digits for the Dolphins, led by senior Cody Gauvard (Rockaway, N.Y.), who tallied 18 points. Senior Mark Waite (Chicago, Ill.) registered a double-double with 13 points and 11 points. Junior Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore Chris Bonaventura (Staten Island, N.Y.) both scored 12 points apiece to round out the double-digit scorers.

Maritime returns to action on Saturday night, Dec. 10, in the Privateers' final game before when the winter break. They will play host to Skyline-opponent Yeshiva University at 8:30 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
