Ravens Lose Battle Under the Boards

More news about: Rosemont

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Rosemont College men's basketball team fell behind early in tonight's contest at Gwynedd-Mercy College and despite a second-half comeback, was not able to get back within range of the home Griffins. Gwynedd-Mercy won tonight's game by a final score of 79-62 in the conference-opening game for both teams. The Ravens fell to 1-2 overall (0-1 CSAC) while Gwynedd-Mercy is now 2-1 (1-0 CSAC).

Rosemont took their only lead of the game, 4-3, after only 2:07 was played. From that point the Griffins extended their lead, eventually holding a commanding 35-13 margin with 3:59 left in the first half. The Ravens went into the locker room at the half trailing by 19 points, 41-22.

The best sequence for Rosemont came as the second half opened. The Ravens went on a 10-0 run and outscored Gwynedd-Mercy 13-2 to get to within eight points of the lead, trailing 43-35 with 16:04 left in the game. From that point the Griffins adapted their play, controlled the inside and again ran out to a larger lead, eventually leading by 23 points, 77-54 with 1:45 remaining.

The Ravens did outscore the Griffins 40-38 in the second half, but the two-point benefit was not enough to counter the 19-point first-half deficit. The Griffins were strong in the paint, pulling down 46 rebounds while Rosemont could only manage 18 boards on the night. The Ravens controlled the ball well compared to Gwynedd-Mercy, turning the ball over only 12 times compared to the Griffins' 21 turnovers.

Rosemont placed three players in double-figures. Senior Harrison Carsillo (Collingswood, N.J.) paced the Ravens with 16 points, all scored in the second half. Junior Tremell Green (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 11 and sophomore Kevin Fenstermaker (Warminster, Pa.) scored 10 for Rosemont. Rosemont's junior guard Justin Chaney (Williamstown, N.J.) ripped down five rebounds to lead the Ravens in that category.

The Ravens return to action after the Thanksgiving break, traveling to Centenary College for a CSAC game on Monday, 11/28 beginning at 7:00pm.
