No. 11 Diplomats Defeat Bullets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Hayk Gyokchyan picked up his third double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 11 Franklin & Marshall to a 61-47 win over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action. The Diplomats improved to 8-0, 4-0 CC while the Bullets fell to 4-4, 2-2. The win is the sixth straight for F&M over Gettysburg.

The opening nine minutes proved to be a defensive battle as both teams fought to take the lead. Gettysburg led 12-11 at 11:43, before Gyokchyan hit two from stripe to put the Diplomats back on top 13-12.  The Bullets battled back and came within two points 20-18 with 8:22 remaining in the half.  F&M answered with a 19-2 run to go up 39-20 with 28 ticks on the clock and took a 39-22 edge into the break.

F&M maintained its double-digit advantage throughout the game and led by as many 20 points in the second half. Gettysburg came within 12 points at 4:02, but the teams traded buckets down the stretch and F&M never trailed by more than 11 points.

Georgio Milligan scored in double-figures for the eighth time this season with a game-high 17 points. Milligan shot 50% from the floor and added four assists and five steals. Milligan has 1,497 career points and is five points shy of tying Jeremiah Henry '96 for the seventh spot on F&M's career list.

Brett McCormick netted a career-high 11 points, shooting 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Brandon Beckford added five points while Ed Early and Jon Salandra both finished with four points.

Alex Zurn led the way for the Bullets with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Christian Bors and Derek Brooks both finished with six points for Gettysburg.

The Diplomats travel to Haverford on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. game to wrap up the 2011 portion on their schedule.
