First Half Burst Carries Rochester Past Hamilton

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Rochester ran off a 15-0 burst in the first five minutes and went on to defeat Hamilton College, 83-58, at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

It was the first loss of the season for Hamilton (8-1) which entered the game with its best start since the 2005-06 season. Rochester, ranked 24th in Division III this week, improved to 7-2. The Yellowjackets are 5-0 at the Palestra.

Chris Dende led Rochester with 15 points, hitting seven of 10 from the field. Marcus Williams added 13 points and five rebounds. They were the only two in double figures for Rochester. John DiBartolomeo scored eight points, had five assists, four rebounds, and three steals. 

Pat Sullivan scored a game-high 17 points for Hamilton. He made four of nine from the floor, including a three-pointer, and eight of eight from the foul line. Ken Glick scored 12 points, making six of 10 from the field. 

Hamilton hurt itself by making only three of 22 shots from the field in the first 20 minutes (13.6%). The Continentals were aggressive going to the basket and drew fouls. Hamilton was 12 of 14 from the foul line in the first half.

Rochester hit 60% from the floor in the first half (18 of 30). Dende scored 11 points in the first half, five in the opening 15-0 surge. DiBartolomeo had eight points and five assists. It was 45-19 at halftime.
