Farmingdale State - 80, NYU-Poly - 51


Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in the Skyline, with an 80-51 victory over NYU-Poly in their conference opener on Thursday night in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Jays fell to 0-5, 0-2 with the loss.

The Rams built up an early 18-2 margin and never looked back as they cruised to the first conference win of the year. Junior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted game-highs of 27 points, 19 boards, and eight blocks to lead Farmingdale State. 

NYU-Poly was led by freshman Evan Azzam (Los Angeles, Calif.) who totaled 14 points. Senior Alex Westphal (Port Washington, Wisc.) and freshman Thomas Fabian (Stroudsburg, Pa.) each chipped in with 11. Westphal led the Jays with 11 rebounds.

NYU-Poly shot just 22-percent from the field on the night, while Farmingdale shot 40-percent.

The Rams will now host Old Westbury on Wednesday night, December 7th, at 8:00 p.m. in a double-header with the women's team.
