Second-half surge lifts No. 21 St. Thomas

Senior center Tommy Hannon had 16 points and the No. 21-ranked Tommies (4-1 overall, 1-0 MIAC) used a 31-10 advantage in bench points to pull away from visiting St. Olaf (1-4, 0-1) in Wednesday night's MIAC men's basketball action in Schoenecker Arena.

Senior center Stu Neville had 20 points and seven rebounds for the Oles, who sank just 3-of-14 from 3-point range and shot only 35% in each half. Freshman Sterling Nielson had 13 points.

St. Thomas made only one 3-pointer but it shot 60% in the second half (15-of-25) and used a 38-30 rebounding edge. UST closed the game with a 31-14 run over the final 13:45.

Freshman Conner Nord had 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench. John Nance had all 10 of his points and five rebounds in the second half. Zach Reideman scored nine points, Will DeBerg had seven assists and three steals, and Noah Kaiser had seven rebounds.

St. Thomas is home Saturday to face Gustavus in an 8 p.m. start.
