MADISON, Wis. - After three wins away from Madison to open the season, the Edgewood College men's basketball team wasn't about to let their first game at the Todd Wehr Edgedome be a disappointment. The Eagles open the game on a 16-0 run and cruised past Westminster College (Mo.) 82-52 in a Black Friday home opener.

Edgewood College (4-0) missed their first five shots from the field, but then exploded past the Blue Jays. Senior Kent Faurote hit a three-point shot to put the Eagles on the board, and following a bucket from Cashton Craig, hit another triple for a quick 8-0 lead. Sophomore Justin Williams then scored on a putback to force a Westminster timeout. The Eagles then scored three straight fast break baskets, finished off with a steal and a breakaway dunk by Faurote. The Blue Jays finally scored their first basket of the game at the 14:26 mark of the first half.

Skylar Tolson of Westminster College (1-3) hit a leaning three-pointer at the halftime buzzer, but the Eagles still held a commanding 42-31 lead. Edgewood College shot 53.1 percent (17-for-32) in the first half, but the Blue Jays stayed close by making five out of their six three-point attempts. Faurote had 12 points at the break, while fellow senior Ben Wisniewski totaled eight points.

Any thoughts of a Blue Jay comeback were erased by a 17-4 Edgewood College run to open the second half. Faurote scored five points on the run, including a three-point play, while freshmen Joe Klocek and Dylan Rusch added buckets to close out the streak. The Blue Jays got as close as 17 points at 63-46 with just under 10 minutes to play in the game, but the Eagles held Westminster to just one point in the final five minutes of play to win going away.

Four Eagles reached double figures, led by Faurote who came up one rebound short of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Wisniewski added 15 points and hit three three-pointers just like Faurote did. Senior Derek Nkemnji added 10, as did Rusch who turned in the highest point total of his short career. After Faurote, Williams was second in rebounding with eight boards, while Wisniewski led the team with five assists. The Eagles shot an even 50 percent (27-for-54) for the game.

This is the fifth time in recorded school history that Edgewood College has opened a season with four straight wins. However in three of the those seasons (1977-78, 1987-88, 1997-98), the Eagles lost their fifth game. Only the 1976-77 went deeper into the season before suffering their first loss, starting 10-0.

Edgewood College will be back on the road on Sunday afternoon for a game against NAIA member Viterbo University in La Crosse. Sunday's game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
