Rangers Even Record, Outlast Knights

More news about: Drew

Four players were in double figures for Head Coach Darryl Keckler including senior Dara Mc Keon (Dunboyne, Ireland/St. Peter's College) who had a career-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The Rangers had trouble containing Knight guard Khalief Trawick who was a blistering 10-of-13 from the floor, tallying a game-high 27 points.

The Rangers had a comfortable lead for the majority of the night and it all began at the 10 minute mark in the first half. The Knights got the Drew lead down to a point on a Jason Thompson layup which then sparked a 9-0 run by the home team.  The Rangers would work the lead to as high as 11 over the first 20 minutes of play and settled for a 38-29 lead at the break. Mc Keon and Brown each had 10 points in the first period.

The first 16 minutes of the final frame was all Drew, as they opened up a 25-point lead thanks to a 14-0 run midway through the half. Arcadia would make a last-ditch effort in the final four minutes, taking advantage of a stalled Ranger offense. The Knights scored 13-straight points and found themselves down six with 48 seconds remaining.

A 4-for-7 free throw shooting effort in the final 34 seconds was good enough for the Rangers to hang on for their second win of the year and first ever against Aracadia. Prior to tonight the neither teams ever met.

Senior Asmar Capers (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) added 13 points and eight rebounds while junior Luke Mullaney (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) chipped  in 11 off the bench to round out the Rangers scoring.  The Ranger attack was lights out from beyond the arc, hitting a season-high 13 triples and shooting 58 percent from 3-point land in the final 20 minutes.

The Rangers will be back in action next Tuesday when they travel to the College of Staten Island for a non-conference matchup at 7:30 p.m.
